Were the Mayan’s Right?

This month marks the end of the Mayan calendar on 21st December 2012, which some believe is the end of the world.

Philosophers and spiritual beings believe it marks the end of civilisation as we know it, as people become more aware of their purpose in their life and the way we treat each other and our planet.

The Mayans were a civilisation of accomplished astronomers who according to spiritual belief, meditated into another dimension. The Mayans built many temples in Mexico, the most known being the pyramid of Chicken Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula. But they didn't just stop there. Their reign took place across most of Central America and sites are in Guatemala, Belize and Honduras, with others still being discovered today.

As this month sees ‘end of the year' parties taking place within many of these archaeological sites, it seems only fitting that I should include these much-talked about ruins within my next trip and include Guatemala, Belize and Honduras within my itinerary.

So, with only 10 days left until the end of the Mayan calender, I better get cracking and sign up for that Spanish course, adios amigos. Hopefully see you after the 21st December…

Hey! Thanks for following me on Twitter! I love the idea of your blog – making solo travel easier. There is nothing better than leaving your old life behind and go for an adventure hunt, right :)? Regarding your post, I don’t really believe in end of the world, at least not this year. It just can’t happen as I have so many travel plans starting from January 2013 so that must be a joke. I know some people though who are ready for the end of the world and they can’t wait for it. They don’t travel- that’s the reason. I agree with what you say about Mayans. They built such beautiful temples and pyramids. I am going there next year to Mexico to see how beautiful they are.

Keep in touch. Will follow you on all channels.

Thanks for the comment Agness. The Mayans did build some amazing temples didn’t they and they were so advanced for their time. Even Chicken Itza with its 365 steps was an ancient calender! I don’t believe in the end of the world either so hopefully if the Mayans weren’t right, I’ll maybe see you in Mexico next year 🙂
