This month marks the end of the Mayan calendar on 21st December 2012, which some believe is the end of the world.
Philosophers and spiritual beings believe it marks the end of civilisation as we know it, as people become more aware of their purpose in their life and the way we treat each other and our planet.
The Mayans were a civilisation of accomplished astronomers who according to spiritual belief, meditated into another dimension. The Mayans built many temples in Mexico, the most known being the pyramid of Chicken Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula. But they didn't just stop there. Their reign took place across most of Central America and sites are in Guatemala, Belize and Honduras, with others still being discovered today.
As this month sees ‘end of the year' parties taking place within many of these archaeological sites, it seems only fitting that I should include these much-talked about ruins within my next trip and include Guatemala, Belize and Honduras within my itinerary.
So, with only 10 days left until the end of the Mayan calender, I better get cracking and sign up for that Spanish course, adios amigos. Hopefully see you after the 21st December…
