Types of Girl about the Globes – Cultural GatG, Tribal GatG
If you’ve ever wanted to witness a Sami reindeer migration or visit the Sami reindeer herders in Norway, now you can.
Visit Natives gives you the opportunity to discover indigenous cultures in both Norway and Tanzania. Travel deeper and get more out of your trip by spending time with the Hadzabe – the hunter-gatherers – in Tanzania, or the Maasai warriors in the Masai Mara. Travel with the indigenous people on adventures such as a wildlife safari, going bush trekking or experiencing a wilderness expedition. You’ll learn about traditional medicines, and sleep next to camp fires surrounded by nature.
Both the Sami culture and Maasai culture are facing many threats to maintaining their traditional lifestyle. Sustainable tourism helps them to maintain their cultural heritage and customs and to preserve their traditional livelihood and knowledge to future generations.
Norway – The Sami Culture
Reindeer herding is based on traditional knowledge of the Sami tribe. Their skills have been adapted to their environment and they live according to the seasons and natural rhythm of the Arctic. Visit in June-July and you can experience the Midnight sun as well as the reindeer calves earmarking period. An experience with the Sami Norway is a full immersion and the connections you make with the reindeer herder tribe can be life-changing.
Tanzania – Maasai culture and Hadzabe
In Tanzania you can observe the Maasai and Hadzabe traditions and culture in Northern Tanzania.
The Maasai tribe have adopted a revitalized approach to preserve their culture in modern times. During your immersion with the tribe, you meet the spiritual leader and medicine man, and have the chance to sing and dance to Maasai's ancestral songs. To stay with the Maasai Mara tribe is such a privilege and you’ll learn about the balance and harmony needed between them and their environment.
You’ll be expanding your consciousness for environmental healing and reconnecting with nature, whilst learning wisdom from this fascinating tribe whose traditions have been practiced in the same way for hundreds of years.
The Hadzabe, are hunter-gatherers who live only in Tanzania, in Lake Eyasi. There are estimated to be around 1300 Hadzabe people living in the country. They still live a hunter-gatherer existence that has hardly changed from 10,000 years ago. During the day, the men use bows and arrows to hunt animals, whilst the women gather roots using digging sticks. At night they set up a fire and tell stories and sing.
To experience their lifestyle is definitely a unique experience. You have the opportunity to go hunting with the Hadzabe and collect wild honey from the Baobab trees, sharing the rich culture of both the Maasai people and Hadzabe tribe.

An Indigenous Immersion
What’s so unique about Visit Natives is that you get to follow in the footsteps of ancient customs and traditions and be guided by local tribespeople in their native lands. With their aim to preserve indigenous cultures, whether you decide to go to Norway or Africa, you will have an experience that you will never forget.
With every trip booked, they build toilets and buy health insurances for Maasai women because they are the most vulnerable, and yet they play a primary role in overseeing the health and well-being of their families. Your trip matters and can change lives.
“An Immersive one of a kind experience in Northern Norway. I had such an amazing time on our trip with Nils and his family at their winter herding cabin in Finnmark. Learning hands on about Sàmi culture and tradition in the arctic tundra and how climate change and regulation are threatening their way of life. Visit Natives offers a once in a lifetime experience to be able to learn and be part of a dying tradition and culture. Highly recommend it to anyone that wants to learn about and be part of traditional ways of life.” – Alice Ford, U.S.
