Thanks to my brand new Twitter friend; Laura The Explorer and Globetrotting Couple, I have been nominated twice for a Liebster Award to help discover new blogs! Woo hoo!
But this is no ordinary award:
In fact I have to reveal more of myself than people probably want to see, starting with 11 random facts all about me, myself and the blonde chick (temporarily brunette) who calls herself Girl about the Globe… so here goes:
My 11 Random Facts
1. I’ve starred in a Thai soap opera.
2. I’ve danced with a witch doctor.
3. I have no tonsils or appendix!
4. I’ve throw myself off a perfectly good bridge (in the name of bungee jumping).
5. My dream at school was to open an exotic cocktail bar (after seeing the movie ‘Cocktail' with Tom Cruise).
6. I’m useless at swimming.
7. If there’s a podium – I’m on it!
8. My freckles decide to make an appearance each summer.
9. I’m a Reiki Master.
10. I love marmite and cheese (yes together!)
11. I’ve sheared a sheep!
This order bears no resemblance to how crazy or random these facts are or in which order I did them (e.g I didn't lose my tonsils after dancing with the witch doctor).
Now for the next part,
My 11 Questions
1 – Where was your first holiday?
The exotic Island of Wight on a camping holiday with my parents then each year after that until I was old enough to leave the country by myself and I flew to Alicante when I was 17 for a proper sunny holiday. (n.b The Isle of Wight does get sun and is lovely).
2 – Backpack or wheely suitcase?
This is a tough one. If you're trying to impress and look ‘business chic' then a wheely one (took one of these to Budapest) but for long backpacking trips – definitely the backpack for that ‘I'm a hardened traveller' look. (You have to have a pair of walking boots swinging from it to add to the effect).
3 – Two in one haircare or separate shampoo and conditioner?
I always take a shampoo bar (the cinnamon one from Lush is great) as it's lighter to carry and lasts ages then if I'm going to a hot country I take a leave-in conditioner so I don't come back with it looking like straw (which it kinda does anyway so I should just go with the 2 in 1 and thinking about it – what a great idea. Thanks!)
4 – Africa or Asia? Why?
They are so different! One is easy and the other more challenging. I've been lucky enough to have travelled to both. This is tough but if I have to answer (I can hear the clock ticking), it would have to be……umm…..ASIA!
5 – What is your favourite travel film?
It has to be ‘The Beach‘ which inspired me to pay off my debts, move to the Channel Islands and work 6 nights a week so that I couldn't spend any money to save for a year long trip to Asia and Australasia. When I actually stood on Maya Bay I had goose bumps thinking about what I had achieved.
6 – Harem pants or board shorts?
Harem pants – I'm a girl! Although I don't really pull off the look but they are so comfortable. Oh hang on a minute – we're not talking MC Hammer pants are we?!?
7 – Guidebooks or get lost?
I never do guide books, when I travel I rely on my instinct. Obviously I do some online research before but I believe that the best info is from the locals or people who you meet when you get there not some guide book that is 3 years out of date. So the answer is…I basically wing it!
8 – Mountain or beach?
Mountain then the beach or beach before the mountain so that I've got a tan when I'm on the mountain. I would say though that deserts are my absolute fave (especially red ones) but you can't beat the solitude on a mountain but then again, you can't beat the eye candy on the beach either (why are these questions so hard?)
9 – Travel buddy pet-hate?
Someone who travels by the book (literally). I once travelled with a guy who wouldn't go to a restaurant unless it was in his Lonely Planet (other guide books are available). We were on a beach in Mombassa with only 2 restaurants within miles and yep, you've guessed it, they weren't in his book. It took a lot of persuasion to get him to eat in one.
10 – Money saving top-tip?
Eating food on street corners instead of in restaurants. Not that I make a habit of standing on a street corner mind you but saving money on food and eating fresh from the little men (and women) who cook up a Pad Thai on the side of the street (£1 versus £3!) is a great money saver.
11 – Dream destination?
Everywhere I haven't been! (a cop out I know).
As much as I am honoured and flattered to have accepted this fine award, I now have to pass this on and nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 intimate questions.
So, drum roll please…
My nominations are:
The Lilac Around The World

And here's my 11 questions for all you lovely nominees…
1. Who's your inspiration?
2. What's the worst thing you have ever eaten?
3. Paris or Peru? Why?
4. Who's your favourite airline?
5. Are you fashionably late or an early bird?
6. Did you make any new year resolutions? Have you stuck to them?

9. What's the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
10. What destination would you least like to visit?
11. What's the craziest thing you've ever done?
