Medellin is full of bars and restaurants and no matter what type of bar you are into there are plenty to choose from. Here's the best nightlife in Medellin Colombia

Now that I am in Panama, I find that I am missing Colombia – the culture, the people, the dancing and especially the Medellin night life.

Medellin is full of bars and restaurants and no matter what type of bar you are into, there are plenty to choose from. Parque Lleras may seem like the obvious choice, but there are more dotted around the city in Barrio Colombia, Calle 33 and La 70. If you're new to the city, I hope this quick article will give you some ideas of where to drink. Being a lover of cocktails and rooftop bars, here are my absolute favourite bars in Medellin.

1. Envy at The Charlee Hotel

What can I say about this place! It has the most fabulous views of the city and being here just makes you feel like a superstar. There’s no entry fee (except on nights when they hold events) and they even have pool parties and glow-in-the-dark menus. This rooftop bar just oozes swankiness and is my favourite place in Medellin.

2. Woka Lounge

Yes, you’ve guessed it. This bar is another rooftop in the city and although it doesn’t have the views like Envy, it is such a unique place with a roof that goes back to reveal the night sky. It’s as though you’ve stepped into a magical garden with tall trees and cave booths and the highest bar bottles I have ever seen. It just has to be visited.

 

3. Tropical Cocktales

I absolutely love Buddha bars and this is the only one in Medellin. Combined with my other favourite thing – a live DJ and electronic music, this bar is extremely cool with even cooler cocktails. Frozen and tropical (as the name suggests) they come in a plastic cup so don’t expect a fancy glass here. This is a very cool place for people-watching.

4. Shupa Shots

If you’re looking to get warmed up for the evening, there is no better place to start than here. As the name suggests, it is a shot bar and has more shots than you’d ever have time to drink. From fruity to just deadly, these shots will definitely get you going for the evening and the coloured decor is pretty impressive too.

5. Alta Gracia

This bar is so funky and is the place to be on a weekend. It feels as though you’ve stumbled on a secret with a great atmosphere and funky music. The best thing about this bar is that lychee sangria is on the menu but if that’s too expensive then you can have a lychee shot instead.

There are so many more bars in Medellin. These are just my favourite ones. As for me, only two more months then I’ll be sipping a cocktail from my favourite bars in the city. Medellin, I’ll definitely be back.
