Planning a trip to Greece during the Autumn months? Here are three of the best Greek Islands in October that are just perfect for solo travellers
If you're looking to get away at the end of the summer, the Mediterranean climate of Greece, thrives post summer. Having welcomed most visitors during the month of August, post summer Greece is more mellow and calmer, and having absorbed the sun’s heat all summer, the sea is at its warmest too.
Visit the Greek Islands in October and there are less queues to visit the landmarks and sites, less people in the restaurants and cafes and on the beaches, and less noise, so you can really appreciate the Greek hospitality and islands without the crowds.
If you’re planning on island hopping in the shoulder season, some of these are also the best Greek islands for September too. The beach weather is still warm enough to chill out on a beach but check the ferry connections as they do reduce from October. Check the weather in Greece in October here.
If you are planning a trip to Greece, here are some of the best Greek islands in October that are just perfect for solo travellers.
1. Corfu
The emerald lady of the Ionian Sea and one of the Ionian islands, Corfu is a destination that has everything that are usually associated with a Greek island. However, its coastal, old town is quite unique, having made the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Corfu isn't the place to come just for a beach holiday as it is the island's main tow. But it is well connected to other idyllic locations, such as the stunning Agios Gordios cliff on the western side of the island, or others on the northern coast, such as Sidari and Porto Timoni.
With a timeless, aristocratic charm that is simply enchanting, the ‘kantounia’ cobblestone streets, as they are locally known, are like a labyrinth that reveal remnants of a past era of grandeur by way of mansions, manors and principal houses.
Corfu used to be a cultural hot spot back in the day, and its cobblestone streets used to be frequented by the high society of the time, as Corfu town was brimming with glamorous events, soirees and galas.
Given its diverse history that has spanned Ancient Greek, Byzantine, Venetian, British, and French rule, Corfu town has a very interesting urban landscape, filled with landmarks and varying architecture. As well as the esplanade, the town is home to magnificent palaces, Venetian fortresses and a royal villa estate.
Corfu is considered one of the most beautiful Greek islands and there is a lot to see here so visiting Corfu for a few nights is plenty of time to keep you busy if you're visiting.

2. Paros
Typically Cycladic, Paros is one of those popular Greek islands that will give you the best of both worlds. It's one for the active Girl about the Globe, the party GatG and the ocean GatG and is ideal for different types of post summer holidays. Paros is one of the best Greek islands for beaches with many spectacular beaches.
Among its quaint settlements is Naousa, with its maze of alleyways, shops and stores, plus one of the most picture-perfect little ports you have ever laid eyes on. Naousa is also the best place for sampling the local nightlife. The bars and clubs are the ideal spot for solo travellers who are looking to mingle and sample the island after dark.

The centre of Paroikia, the main town, is home to the Frankish Castle of Paros, an impressive castle built in the 1200s that is said was built from ancient sanctuaries scattered in and around the island. The centre is also a nice location for a casual stroll among the picturesque cobblestones streets.
There is something otherworldly about the famous Kolympithres beach, a very unique beach of oddly shaped boulder rocks that is reminiscent of a lunar landscape.
For the Ocean GatG who loves to wind and kite surf, the beaches of Chrissi Akti and Mikri Pounda, opposite Antiparos island, are the best choices, although there are a few other spots that allow you to harness the power of the winds.
You can also take a day trip (or at night) to neighbouring Antiparos, which is incredibly close. If you have the energy for an all-nighter, there are ferries that connect the two and take less than 10 minutes for the journey. If you prefer to stay on the island, you could visit the Valley of Butterflies in Paros, located near the Monastery of Jesus of Woods.

Karavostasis port Folegandros
3. Folegandros
If you haven't heard of Folegandros, you are not alone. This enchanting place has a rare, timeless beauty about it. Not being one of the well-known islands of the group, such as Santorini and Mykonos, it remains largely unspoilt and is one island still very set in its traditional local ways.
This is the kind of island where you'll come across the permanent residents, even riding their donkeys, who will bid you a heartfelt “kalimera” as you pass them by. Even arriving here feels different, and the port is beautiful. The sea is so clean and crystal clear, that the sea bed is entirely visible at the shallow ends of the waters.
If you're a nature Girl about the Globe, the island offers many hiking trails that reveal some scenic landscapes, and jaw-dropping sea meets sky panoramas. See the Kastro in Chora, which is built on a dramatic precipice with staggering views, or take a boat tour to see pristine beauty spots that aren't accessible by land.
